ORAL PATHOLOGY

CYSTS AND LESIONS

Cysts and lesions of the mouth and jaws may require specialist assessment. In most cases, these are benign and can be managed with removal of the cyst and monitoring of the area. Some cysts or lesions require long-term follow-up with X-rays to assess for recurrence.

In order to confirm the nature of a cyst, either a biopsy or removal of the entire cystic lesion is carried out. The tissue is sent for pathology for examination. Dr Allan will review the results and further management will be given to you if required.

This is procedure is usually done as a day surgery case under general anaesthesia.
